If you are in charge of closing up shop each day after work, there will inevitably be a day when you are driving home and suddenly panic, unable to remember if you closed the facility’s garage doors before leaving for the day.

Fortunately, this exact situation can be very easily avoided by connecting your commercial garage door opener to the internet using LiftMaster’s MyQ app. While the below instructions are specifically for Liftmaster brand WiFi garage door openers, other brands may also have this option, which you can learn to enable by referring to their specific manuals.

The very first thing to do before connecting your opener to the MyQ network is test the WiFi signal strength within your facility using a mobile device. If there is a strong signal, the garage door opener should be able to connect with little to no problem. However, you may need to troubleshoot or contact your internet provider for assistance before attempting to connect the opener if the signal is weak.

After testing the WiFi strength,

1. Locate the smart control panel in the garage.

  • Select Menu using the down arrow, then select Program with the side arrow. You’ll arrive at a new menu.
  • Press the down arrow until WiFi Setup is highlighted, then select it using the side arrow.

2. Listen for a beep.

  • Your garage door opener will beep once if you did Step 1 properly.
  • The garage’s smart control panel should say “WiFi Setup Started.”

3. Connect to the MyQ network.

  • Access your mobile device’s WiFi settings and select the option that begins with “MyQ.”

4. Connect commercial garage door opener to internet.

  • Pull up your favorite web browser on your device and type in com.
  • Select Start to start the set-up process. Follow the prompts.
  • Write down the serial number you are given. You can also find this number on the back of your commercial garage door opener.

5. Download the LiftMaster MyQ app.

  • Download the MyQ app to your mobile device when prompted to do so.
  • Create your account, register your device, and type in the serial number when prompted.

After you successfully complete these five steps, use your device to test the app to ensure it can open and close your garage door system properly. You are now able to use this app to double check that your facility doors are closed after you leave work! The best part is that you can do this anywhere you have internet access: your favorite restaurant, the hotel room at a business conference, or even a local football game.
