How to Program Your LiftMaster Garage Door Remote

Do you need to program your LiftMaster garage door remote? Follow these steps to get started on reprogramming your own system. You’ll be surprised how easy it is! 

Program Using Your Opener

1. Use a ladder to safely reach your garage door opener. If you need to, have a partner hold the ladder steady.
2. Locate the LEARN button on the garage door opener. Press the LEARN button and then release it. The light on your operator will glow for 30 seconds, indicating a successful action.
3. While this indicator light is on, press the button on your remote that you want to use to open your door. Hold this button down until the light on the operator blinks.
4. Release the button on your handheld remote. The lights will flash, or, if your light bulbs aren’t installed yet, you will hear two clicks.
5. You have successfully programmed your remote! Repeat these steps for all of your garage door remotes.

Program Using Your Smart Control Panel

1. Use the navigation buttons below MENU on your panel to locate FEATURES.
2. Use the navigation buttons to select PROGRAM.
3. Select REMOTE from the PROGRAM menu.
4. Press the button on the remote control you want to use to operate your garage door.
5. Once you’ve successfully programmed your remote, the lights on the opener will blink or you will hear two clicks coming from your unit.

Deactivate Your Old Remotes

1. Press and hold the LEARN button on the garage door operator until the indicator light turns off.
2. When the indicator light has turned off, all codes have been erased.
3. Test all remotes to be certain they are no longer programmed to open your garage door.
4. Be sure to properly and safely dispose of all batteries in your unwanted remotes.
